Brett Bethurum

Brett Alden Bethurum was born on October 3, 1961 at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas and went to be with our Lord on October 7, 2017 in Venus, Texas. He attended Gunn Junior High School and graduated from Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas in 1979. Brett played Trumpet for the Bowie Volunteers Marching Band and he received a Band Scholarship from Texas Christian University. 

Brett’s love of music evolved into the acoustic guitar and electric guitar. He played in numerous bands including Country Mile, Not Exactly Dylan, and Slim Pickens for over 25 years. Brett’s constant companions were his dogs Hazel and Tate, plus many others over the years. Brett was full of humor and always had a beautiful smile. Brett enjoyed the outdoors and spending time in his backyard in the evening playing his guitar.

Brett leaves behind many loving family members including his two daughters, Haley Axsom and her husband Kalo of Natchitoches, LA, and Ellisha Doolen of Tucson, AZ. Parents Jerry and Barbara Bethurum of Decatur, Texas. Sisters Lisa A Bethurum of Decatur, Texas and Faith Bethurum of San Marcos, Texas and brother Captain Grant Bethurum and his wife Maria of Odenton, MD. Nieces and nephews Rob Holder and his wife Stephanie of Keller, Texas, Crystal Raesley and her husband Matt of Keller, Texas, Arin Satterthwaite of Marble Falls, Texas, and Ian Satterthwaite of San Marcos, Texas, Kai S. Bethurum of Odenton, MD, and great nephew Hayden V. Wofford of Keller, Texas.

 Memorial service is 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017 at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Rev. David Lowry and Rev. Gerre Joiner will officiate.
