Tommy Ray White

Tommy Ray White, age 79, of Bridgeport, Texas died July 25, 2017 at his home following a brief battle with cancer.

Tommy was born on September 6, 1937 in Elizabethton, Tennessee, son of John Raymond “Ray” and Eureka (Nave) White. 

He received Jesus as his Personal Savior and was baptized at a young age in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

Tommy moved to Buckeye, Arizona and graduated Buckeye High School in 1955. He attended Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, Arizona in the fall of 1955 where he played basketball and continued his studies. It was at college that Tommy met his future wife, Janet.

On July 11, 1958 Tommy was united in marriage to Janet Marie Thurston at North Tucson Baptist Church in Tucson, Arizona. Together they were blessed with two children, Jeanine and Sharilyn.

Tommy and Janet moved to Escondido, California in 1968. Tommy was an expert auto mechanic and worked for his father’s mechanic shop since his youth and eventually operated his own repair and gas station in Escondido. 

Following his retirement, he tended to a small avocado grove and also a fine garden on his small acreage in Escondido.

Tommy especially enjoyed a love of quartet and hymn singing both in church and at home.

In 2015 Tommy and Janet moved from Escondido, California to Bridgeport, Texas to be closer to family. He treasured spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, John Raymond “Ray” and Eureka White; and his brother-in-law, John Strother.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Janet White of Bridgeport, Texas; his daughters, Jeanine Christiansen and husband Dwight of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sharilyn Rogers and husband Mike of Bridgeport, Texas; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; his sister, Florence Strother of Prescott Valley, Arizona; numerous extended family and a host of friends
