Welcome to the memorial page for

Wesley Harold Mowery

October 7, 1926 ~ August 17, 2016 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Wesley H. Mowery, a Landman, Seaman, and Airman, punched out on Earth’s time clock on August 17, 2016 for the beginning of his next venture. He was born on October 7, 1926 to Ollie Mae Watson Mowery and Ollie William Mowery of Park Springs, Texas.  He served with pride in the U.S. Navy during World War II, including the Iwo Jima and Okinawa Operations. After attending Decatur Baptist College and Baylor University, and receiving a master’s degree from the University of Texas, he was a public school administrator and teacher for five years. In subsequent years he also served in the Air Force and the National Guard. He was formally active member of the Masonic Lodge, was a 32 degree Scottish Rite and member of Shriner. In 1951, he married Anna Bess Renshaw of Rhome, Texas. In 1957, he began his sixty year career in the oil and gas industry as a petroleum landman. In addition, he was a city councilman, mayor and a candidate for both state and national congressional offices.  With lifelong ties to Wise County, he ran the Red Ace Ranch in Decatur, Texas. He lived a long wonderful life and made tremendous contributions to the lives of family, friends and numerous charities. His spirit and courage will continue to inspire forever.

In his own words, he “lived long enough to see economic depression and prosperity, troubled waters and calm seas, war and peace; with prosperity, calm seas and peace being highly favored.  The long journey was punctuated with joy, sadness, fear, hope, hate, love, respect, admiration, pity and a few brief moments of euphoria.  For the bad, he bears full responsibility; for the good, all credit goes to family and great friends.  A closing reminder that relatively good health, a good attitude and a few good friends make one truly rich”.

He is survived by two daughters, Marianne Mowery Fichera, husband Sebastian Fichera;  Jeanette Mowery Heffernan, husband Skip Heffernan; two sons, Timothy Dean Mowery and Mark William Mowery; four grandchildren, Wesley Camillo Fichera, Marissa Mowery Fichera, Camille Mowery Fichera and Anna Peizhen Heffernan; and his loving companion of the past several years, Ellen Daniels. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jean Mowery. Visitation will be held at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur at 10 AM Saturday, August 20.  Immediately following the visitation, his body will be laid to rest at the Lone Star Cemeteryat 11:30 AM.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Wise County Historical Society, the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.
