Hurst ~ Gordon Ray Odom, 85, left this life peacefully Friday, February 22, 2019 in the care of his family in Bedford, TX.
Funeral is 2 PM Monday, February 25, at Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Boyd with burial in Friendship Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd. The Reverend Mark Autry to officiate. Pallbearers: Paul Askey, Chris Wilkinson, Jason Gillis, Daniel Odom, Ethan Jones and Nathan Jones.
Gordon was born to Ethel Irene (née Brown) and Alfred Lee Odom in Decatur, TX. Gordon married Christine Hays on February 5, 1954 while Gordon was serving in the United States Army. The couple lived in Manhattan, KS, Decatur, TX and Fort Worth, TX, eventually settling in Hurst, TX to raise their family. Gordon attended Decatur Baptist College (now Dallas Baptist University) and worked for Texas Department of Transportation and served in the Public Works departments for the cities of Euless and Hurst before starting his own utility construction business in Colleyville, TX. He eventually retired from the City of Fort Worth after serving as a City Inspector. Gordon was devoted to God, his family and many friends and his playful teasing will be missed by many. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and brother Richard Odom of Austin, TX.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, (Beulah) Christine Odom; son Alan Odom and wife Susan; daughter Elizabeth Jones and husband Walter; 8 grandchildren, Lauren Gillis, Allison Wilkinson, Daniel Odom, Rachel Odom, Ann Odom, Nathan Jones, Ethan Jones and Ava Jones; 4 great grandchildren, Devin Wilkinson, Gavin Odom, Andie Wilkinson and Hannah Gillis; his sister, Nelda Askey and husband Bob of Dalhart, TX, other relatives and a host of friends.
