Sam was born on October 25, 1927 to Samuel Carson “Nig” and Ola B. (Caraway) McClure in Decatur, Texas. He married the love of his life Lawanna Hancock on May 15, 1951 in Weatherford, Texas. Sam served time in the United States Army Reserves and worked for the Texas Highway Department most of his career. He was a talented woodworker, an avid antique collector, and a lifelong outdoorsman. Some of his fondest memories were traveling to Colorado and Alaska to fish and hunt. Sam was a good man, strong in faith, and a dedicated member of Cornerstone Baptist Church for over 60 years. He was deeply loved and will be missed by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lawanna McClure; and his son, Keith McClure.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter Kathy Campbell and husband Mark of Decatur; his granddaughters, Alli Smith and husband Mike, Avery Campbell and fiancé Austin Barnes of Colorado; his brothers, Eddie and Jerry McClure; his sisters, Sherry Minton, and Lou Neally; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

The family would like to thank Governor’s Ridge in Decatur for their care and friendship for Sam since May.

For those who wish, memorial donations in memory of Sam may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, which held a soft spot in his heart.
