Travis was born on September 12, 1935 to Benjamine Franklin and Modena (Lovejoy) Roberts in Chico, Texas. He was united in marriage to Marguarette Alice Dukes on August 18, 1983 in Corpus Christie, Texas. Travis lived in Decatur until he was drafted into the United States Army. He served 2 years stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas and was Honorably discharged in 1960. Travis operated 3 Chevron gas stations until 1970 when he accepted a job with James A.
