Decatur~ Betty Jean Barnett, 77, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, September 16, 2021 in Bridgeport.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 20, 2021 at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Bridgeport with burial in Thomas Cemetery. Family will receive friends 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home.
Rev. Paul Glazener will officiate. Pallbearers are to include Shane Howard, Mike Money, John Smith, David Lick, Blake Parker, and Mac Whitcomb.
Betty was born on August 16, 1944 to James Simpson and Mazona June Starnes in Tyler, Texas. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, John Barnett on October 10, 1964 at the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport. Betty had a career she loved as a corporate graphic designer who retired from JCPenney. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Simpson, William Red Ivy, Jr. and Mazona June Starnes; her sisters, Peggy Richey and Linda Ivy.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 56 years, John Barnett of Decatur; her daughter, Shelly Barnett Parker and husband Brent of Arlington; her son, Todd Barnett and wife Heidi of Idaho; her beloved grandchildren, Ashlyn, Jackson, and Emma; her siblings, James Ivy, Tamisha Alonzo, Bobby Joe Simpson, Michael Simpson, and James Simpson; numerous extended family members and a host of friends.
