Donald Gentry

Paradise ~ Donald Gentry, 92, went to be with our Lord Tuesday, October 24, 2023 in Paradise.

Funeral is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, at First Baptist Church in Cottondale with burial in Cottondale Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

Pallbearers are Matthew Weeden, Jason Gentry, Sam Gentry, Chance Gentry, Timothy Gentry, and Kason Gentry. Honorary Pallbearers include Bill Read, Harold Remmele, Roy Jones, Mike Henson, Gary Lasater, and Noel Gilley.

Donald was born on May 25, 1931 to James “Isaac” and Theresa Patricia (Bridges) Gentry in Cottondale. He was united in marriage to Lorene Yvonne Niblett on July 29, 1951 in Paradise, they were together for 71 beautiful years before her passing in 2023. Donald was a rancher and a businessman for all his life. He was a deacon and member at First Baptist Church in Cottondale. Donald was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and a friend to many that will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James “Isaac” and Theresa Gentry; his grandchild, Shonna Perry; and his great-grandchild, Kyndall Gentry.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Donna Weeden of Cottondale; his sons, Glenn Gentry and wife Jean of Cottondale, Gary Gentry and wife Sherry of Decatur, and Roger Gentry and wife Carla of Cottondale; his grandchildren, Shelley Schaffer and husband, Matt; Sam Gentry and wife, Whitney; Nina Price and husband, Will; Kylie Stegman and husband, Chris; Chance Gentry and wife, Felicia; Jason Gentry and wife, Jennifer; Timothy Gentry; Amanda Gentry; Kason Gentry and wife Chaney; Matthew Weeden; and April Winters and husband, Michael; his great-grandchildren, Lexi and Ashton Schaffer; Sawyer, Chandler, Grayson, Charlee, Jamison, Kelsey, Sara, Kynzlee, Kaytlynn Gentry; Eland Delgado; Syler and Sloane Stegman; Annabelle Price; Keylee, Walker, Mikah, and Kimma Winters; and Mattison Weeden; He is also survived by a sister, Patricia Gay Read and two brothers, Willard Gentry and Doug Gentry; numerous nieces and nephews; and his church family at First Baptist Church Cottondale.
