Ethan Chapman Obituary

Bridgeport ~ Ethan James Chapman, 23, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, May 17th, 2020 in Little Elm, Texas.

Ethan James Chapman was born in Tyler, Texas to Kevin and Colleen Chapman on December 12, 1996. He attended Bridgeport High School and graduated in 2016 where he was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Bridgeport Bulls basketball team. Ethan received first team all-district honors in basketball and was a key member of the 2015 State Champion Bulls team. Upon graduation, he went on to play basketball at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Ethan enjoyed hunting and fishing, Mavs and Cowboys games, playing video games and especially loved wakeboarding and wakesurfing every summer at the Lake of the Ozarks.  He grew up loving basketball, and everyone who saw him play can attest he was famous for his 3-point shot.  Ethan was blessed with a very full life in just 23 short years—some of his most treasured accomplishments included traveling the world playing basketball, hunting in Argentina and completing an intensive Seal Fit training. He loved spending time with his family, especially his sister Ryan, his nephew Grayson and niece Leighton, his cousins and having nerf battles with his little brother Noah.  His contagious smile and wry sense of humor allowed him to make friends everywhere and he touched so many lives in a positive way.

Ethan James Chapman is survived by his mother Colleen McGrail of Shreveport, LA; grandmother Connie Chapman of Nacogdoches, TX; his sister, Ryan Chapman and her partner Chris Wright of Shreveport, LA; sisters Presleigh and Landry Chapman of Nacogdoches, TX; his longtime guardian Neal and wife, Jamie Hawks; his brothers Caleb Smith and wife Bailey, Devonte Patterson, Keenan Holdman and Noah Hawks, all of Bridgeport, TX; his niece Leighton and nephew Grayson Wright of Shreveport, LA as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his father, Kevin Chapman and grandparents, Richard “Dick” and Patricia McGrail and Gibbs Chapman.

Due to COVID-19, a private family funeral service will be held at Grace Fellowship Church in Paradise, TX on Friday, May 22nd with Troy Hawks officiating. Burial will follow on Saturday, May 23rd at Sunset Cemetery in Nacogdoches, TX. Hawkins Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention online at www.afsp.org.  The family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of love and support received from friends and family during this difficult time.
