Joseph Milton "Mitt" Lloyd

Slidell – Joseph Milton “Mitt” Lloyd, 68 went to be with our Lord Sunday, November 21, 2021 in Denton, Texas with his wife and son with him, holding his hands and loving him on his journey.

Funeral is 2:00 pm Saturday, November 27, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Slidell, Texas.  Family will receive friends 6-8 pm Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur, Texas.

Leon Coffee and Rob Smets will officiate.

Mitt was born on October 19, 1953 to Joe and Johnnye Mary (Perry) Lloyd in Bryan, Texas.  He was united in marriage on April 18, 1998 to the love of his life, Corrie Muncy in Slidell, Texas.  His greatest gift in life was their son, Ace Lloyd.  

Mitt was born with a love for cattle in his blood and was a lifelong Rancher and Cowboy and in Texas and New Mexico.  He graduated from Ballinger High School in 1971, once a Bearcat always a Bearcat.  He never missed an A & M football game, Gig’em Aggies.  Mitt was one of the original owners of Billy Bob’s Texas in Fort Worth, and was responsible for bringing bull riding inside entertainment venues for the first time.  He rodeoed in high school and throughout his life in both Team Roping and Bull riding.   His passion for cattle and rodeo merged and Lloyd Livestock Company allowed him to raised rodeo stock and provide bucking bulls to rodeos all over Texas and had a bull go to the National Finals Rodeo.  Mitt started Stick Bull Fighting events for Ace and other kids to participate in at rodeos and it was something that he and Ace did together and loved.  He was so proud when Ace became a professional bull fighter and he and Corrie traveled all over to go watch Ace dance with the bulls.   He was a member of the Bad Company Rodeo Company and lived by their motto of Expect The Unexpected and this tribe was his family too.  He loved music of all kinds and to read endlessly.  Mitt treasured taking Corrie to their favorite place Taos, New Mexico and giving her yellow roses every chance he could.  He was known as a thinker of great thoughts and his accomplishments in his life show this to be true.  He was a beloved husband, father, brother, son-in-law, uncle and friend to many who will miss him dearly.  He was a bright light and loved to make others laugh in this old world.  Mitt would say, “Remember the good times, they will get you thru the bad times”, and there were a lot of good times if you loved or knew Mitt Lloyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Johnnye Lloyd and his brother Thomas.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife and love for over 30 years, Corrie Lloyd of Slidell; his son Ace Lloyd and wife Brandy of Winters; 2 sisters Jody Mayer and husband Steve of San Angelo and Mary Michael of Bronte; his mother-in-law Penny Muncy; his brother-in-law Jimmy Muncy; sister-in-law Camille Lloyd; his Godmother Wynona Winters; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. 

He lived life to the fullest, made a million memories, touched so many people’s lives with his kindness and huge heart. He was loud, funny and larger than life.  He always said, see ya, miss ya, love ya – and we take comfort in knowing we will see you on the other side Mitt Lloyd.
