Bridgeport~ Robert Meek, 78, of Bridgeport went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at The First Baptist Church in Bridgeport followed by burial in East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport on Thursday.
Dr. Craig Erb will officiate. Pallbearers are to include, Trevor Meek, Jeffrey Meek, Mark Walker, Mark Funk, Chris Funk, Tommy Newton, Andre Raymond, and Jonathan Bazinet. Honorary Pallbearers include, First Baptist Church Deacons and Robert’s Sunday School Class.
Robert was born on April 11, 1943 to Otis Grady and Laura Methel (Wood) Meek in Decatur, Texas. He graduated from Bridgeport High School and Texas Tech University. Robert was united in marriage to Sue (Marshall) Meek on August 28, 1964 at Big Springs Baptist Church in Garland, Texas. From an early age he was a determined hard worker, first with his family at Spot Cash Grocery, then owner operator of Meek True Value Hardware for many years. Eventually, Robert became a successful Realtor with his wife Sue by his side. He was a longtime member at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport, serving 55 years as a Deacon; Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce member, Lions Club Member, and a former member of the Glory Express Gospel Family who traveled many miles together over the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Sue Marshall Meek of Bridgeport; his sons, Trevor Meek and wife Karen of Bridgeport, and Jeffrey Meek and partner, Mark Walker of Oklahoma City; his grandchildren, Andre and wife Diana, Jonathan and Gia; his great-grandchildren, Asher and Ezra; his sister, Norma Funk of Bridgeport; his sister-in-law, Kay Marshall of Garland; numerous extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends & he had lots of them.
