Runaway Bay~ Dr. Virginia Ann Dick, 83, went to be with our Lord Sunday, February 23, 2020 in Denton.
 
Funeral service is 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. Family to receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday February 26, 2020 at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport. Oklahoma Family Visitation is 5:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Graveside Service is 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 at Bethel Mennonite Cemetery in Hydro, Oklahoma.
 
 
Virginia was born on July 24, 1936 to Henry and Gladys (Anderson) Porter in Decatur, Texas. She was united in marriage to Roy Dick on March 25, 1967 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Virginia graduated from OSU with a Doctorate in Home Economics. She was a retired college professor who taught many years and had distinguished careers with University of North Texas, Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Texas Women’s University.
 
Virginia was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. She is a Wall of Fame Honor recipient at Bridgeport High School. Virginia received the Outstanding Young Women of America Award in 1971, the Professional Award of Oklahoma Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in 1980, as well as the Margaret Fitch Public Relations Award and the OAFCS Service Award in 1994. She was a published author and an advocate for education. Virginia was passionate about her career all while raising her family. Her publications include many educational materials for The U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. She was an author of educational materials concerning food for children and author of “A Suggested Curriculum Guide for Preparing Child Care Workers for Entry Level Jobs.” She distinguished herself by holding numerous positions in the professional organizations such as the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and has served as a consultant to the Bureaus of Indian Affairs, and as a dietary and consultant to nursing homes in Oklahoma and Texas.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 45 years, Roy Dick; and her brother, John Porter.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Denise Caviness and husband Coy of Garland; her son, Jeff Chandler and wife Julie of Noble, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Randee Hawkins and husband Chase of Runaway Bay, Leighton Kennec of Runaway Bay, Jessica Chandler of Noble, Oklahoma and Cole Caviness of Garland; her great granddaughter Hazel Jane Hawkins; her foster children, Juanita and Janette Star; her brothers, Henry Porter and wife Anne, Audrey Porter and wife Beverly, and James Porter and wife Suzanne all of Dallas; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and a host of friends.
