Anna Olivia (Johnson) Holmes

Decatur ~ Anna Olivia Holmes, 97, went to be with our Lord Sunday, April 23, 2017 in Decatur.

Graveside service is 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Jesse Jenkins will officiate. Honorary pallbearers Casey Best, Jerry Best, Trenton Best, Bert Caraway, Jimmy Cunnius, Bill Gasperson, Bob Gasperson, Mike McGraw, Bruce Malcolm, Dalton Montgomery, Bert Little Jr.,Wayne Mask, Stanley Kemp, John Brit  and Kyle Stephens.

Olivia was born on January 18, 1920 to Sam and Anna May (Rosenburg) Johnson in Decatur. She was united in marriage to John Coley Holmes Sr. on October 15, 1938 in Abilene, Texas. Oliva started her career as one room school teacher at Catlett Creek in Wise County and spent over 40 years as bookkeeper and co owner of Holmes Auto Supply. She was a member at the Church of Christ. Oliva also was active in many local organizations including Womens Club, Eagle Mom, Tourism Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Founding member of the Antique Car Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Anna May; her husband, John Coley Holmes Sr.; her son, John Coley Holmes Jr., her grandson, Greg Terrell; her son-in-law, Jim Gasperson.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Olivia Ann Gasperson of Decatur; her daughter-in-law, Vickie Holmes of Decatur; her grandchildren, Melinda Gasperson of Fort Worth, Sam Holmes and wife Tricia of Plano, Chris Holmes and wife Erin of Decatur, Dr. Jeff Harrison and wife Holly of Decatur, and Jason Holmes of Decatur; her great grandchildren, Laci, Danner, Ashton, William, Greyson, John, Annsley, Emmerson and Houston; and a host of friends.
