Dear Peggy's family, I am Leslie Ann Fowler, wife to Joe David's younger brother, John Wayne Orsak. I personally wanted to tell you that the times we visited them in their Bridgeport home, once her husband was agreeable (probably long Orsak family story) to his brother while visiting him from Denton. I was really 'enchanted' (if there's such a thing) by John's brother's story. I felt he had been misunderstood for far too long. Joe David worked with the handicapped children in his school profession because as he told me "he felt badly for them as they don't have anyone to speak up for them". I was overwhelmed by his sensitivity and feelings because I too have been 'one of those handicapped children all my life, based on my beginning to lose my hearing at age 5. It's hard to get through life without being misunderstood by other when one has a handicap. Joe David took those students into his heart.
Peggy, let me tell you, although she had difficulty talking, I could understand her because I'd had my hearing loss for so long I'd learned to read lips (in elementary school in my hometown of Waco way back in the early 60s if you can believe!), and learned on my own to read body language, both human and animals. I had horses and dogs for many years and just like your own children could tell when one was upset, not feeling quite right, bothered by something, or whatever.. You do the best you can even though God did not give you a 'how to' book on how to raise your own when you yourself are born! My body language dependence has recently come into more importance as I'm now eligible for a cochlear implant. Knowledge of the handicapped is very important so as to not misunderstand and misinterpret them. We should at this late a date in history have enough knowledge about human behaviour and its different passages by now!
It was quite easy for me to read and understand what Peggy was trying to say although it was hard for her to get it out. I just let her talk, and watched her. I could sure tell when she was so happy and excited about something by her eyes snapping and sparkling expressing her excitement whilst telling a story! Also when her eyes dimmed over something that made her sad. You guys have a phenomenal sister, family member, and angel watching over you now.
I love this wedding day photo of her. One can just see the hope and excitement of the future in those beautiful eyes!
Expression of Sympathy
